An elastic frame data calculation section (111) generates elastic frame data based on the ultrasonic wave. Further circuitry (112) is provided for setting an upper limit value and a lower limit value of a range for imaging the elastic frame data based on a statistical characteristic amount, and for generating an elastic image based on said elastic frame data by correlating a gradation range to said upper and lower limit values.
