PURPOSE: A cosmetic composition containing an Echinochloa utilis extract, and a compound isolated from the same are provided to suppress tyrosinase activity and melanogenesis by reducing expression of TRP-1 and TRP-2.CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic composition for skin whitening contains an Echinochloa utilis extract as an active ingredient, and suppresses tyrosinase activity. The active ingredient includes one or more among compounds of chemical formulas 1-5.
