The method comprising the steps of a) using said control algorithms to calculate the resistance to flow based on said known geometry and dimensions of 5 said nasal interface, b) using said control algorithms to calculate the bypass flow rate for a range of pressure and flow values suitable for providing gases therapy to said user, and c) using said control algorithms to set an initial value of either pressure or flow to be provided by said blower unit, based on calculations in steps a) and b). A method of reducing the likelihood of an apnoea event or a snoring event in a user is also described.
