A personal cleansing composition which comprises a physiologically active amount of carnosine. The personal cleansing composition is in the form of a gel, soap, or water-soluble delivery agent. The composition may also be in the form of a shower gel, bubble bath, bath salt, both bomb or bath melt. The carnosine may be present in a range of 0.1-1.0% by weight of the total composition but preferably will be present at 0.2%. The composition will preferably further comprise magnesium salt so that the carnosine and magnesium salt form a carnosine-magnesium complex on activation with water. The magnesium may be present in a range of 0.5-2.0% by weight of the total composition but preferably will be present at 1.0%. Caffeine, arnica and essential oils selected from camphor, eucalyptus, clove bud and almond may also be present in the composition.
