The present disclosure relates to force sensors and force sensor substrates for use with surgical devices. A force sensor includes a substrate including a proximal surface having a proximal load contact area and a distal surface having at least one distal load contact area and a sensing area. The distal surface is planar and has at least one groove defined therein separating the at least one distal load contact area from the sensing area.
