A silicone hydrogel contact lens comprises at least one oxygen permeable component, at least one compatibilizing component and a high molecular weight hydrophilic polymer. The amount of high molecular weight hydrophilic polymer is sufficient to provide said device, without a surface treatment, with tear film break up time after about one day of wear of at least about 7 seconds.
