PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compound that improves absorbability of a conventional cationic polymer on the hair and the skin, weakness of conditioning effect in rinsing when mixed with a composition for hair treatment and has moist or refreshing sense of use with moisture based on water holding property free from dry feeling after drying.
SOLUTION: The cation-modified pectin has a part of a hydroxy group contained in pectin, which is replaced with a fixed quaternary nitrogen-containing group and has 0.1-3.0 meq/g cation electric charge derived from the quaternary nitrogen-containing group.
