A system and method of accessing a heart of a patient is provided. A cardiac access channel is established through an apical wall of the heart to provide direct access through the apical wall to the left ventricle. A vascular access channel is established through the skin to a peripheral blood vessel. A first end of an elongate member is advanced from the outside of the apical wail through the cardiac access channel and into the left ventricle. A second end disposed opposite the first end remains outside the patient. The elongate member is drawn into and through the vascular access channel to externalize the first end of the elongate member while leaving the second end outside the apical wall of the heart.La présente invention concerne un système et une méthode d'accès à un cœur d'un patient. Un canal d'accès cardiaque est établi à travers une paroi apicale du cœur afin de ménager un accès direct à travers la paroi apicale jusqu'au ventricule gauche. Un canal d'accès vasculaire est établi à travers la peau jusqu'à un vaisseau sanguin périphérique. Une première extrémité d'un élément allongé est avancée de l'extérieur de la paroi apicale à travers le canal d'accès cardiaque et jusqu'à l'intérieur du ventricule gauche. Une seconde extrémité disposée en regard de la première extrémité reste à l'extérieur du patient. L'élément allongé est aspiré à l'intérieur du canal d'accès vasculaire et à travers celui-ci jusqu'à faire sortir la première extrémité de l'élément allongé tout en laissant la seconde extrémité à l'extérieur de la paroi apicale du cœur.
