PURPOSE: A composition containing Gynostemma pentaphyllum extract is provided to suppress adema, immunocyte proliferation, acute and chronic inflammation, and acute adema. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases contains Gynostemma pentaphyllum extract containing 5.0-10.0 wt% of actigenin as an active ingredient. The inflammatory diseases are arthritis, adema, and immune diseases. A method for preparing the extract comprises: a step of extracting Gynostemma pentaphyllum with 5-9 time weight of water, alcohol, and an alcohol solution； a step of cooling and filtering the extract； a step of concentrating the liquid at reduced pressure and 50-90 Deg.C.； a step of adding alcohol to the concentrate and centrifuging at 700-1,200 rpm.본 발명은 칠엽담(Gynostemma pentaphyllum) 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 염증성 질환 치료 및 예방용 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 더욱 상세하게는 칠엽담 추출물 중 악티제닌(Arctigenin)을 지표물질로 하여, 그 함량이 일정범위로 포함되도록 규격화 및 표준화시키고, 진통억제, 급성염증억제 및 급성부종억제 및 등의 염증성 변화에 의하여 나타나는 제증상의 억제 효과가 우수하게 발현되어 관절염 등의 염증성 변화에 의한 질환 치료 및 예방에 유용한 약제로 사용할 수 있는 칠엽담 추출물에 관한 것이다.
