The present invention provides various formulations for oral delivery of angiotensin peptides. In particular, the present invention provides various oral formulations that maintain the stability of the angiotensin peptide and enhance its absorption into the bloodstream. As a result, angiotensin peptides delivered according to the present invention can achieve a long half-life and therapeutically effective bioavailability. In one aspect, the present invention provides (a) angiotensin (1-7) peptide, (b) at least one pharmaceutically acceptable pH-lowering agent, and (c) angiotensin (1-7) peptide biology. A solid dosage form for oral administration is provided, comprising at least one absorption enhancer effective to promote general availability and (d) a protective vehicle.
