A novel process for isolation of a compound comprising: a) treating dried flowers of Butea monosperma and roots of Barleria prionitis extracted separately with a solvent as herein described b) concentrating the extract below 60°C under reduced pressure c) solvent fractionating the concentrate of step (b) using gradient solvents such as methanol, methanol:water:(9:1), methanol:water (1:1) and water to obtain four fractions and further fractionation carried out by normal and reverse phase silica gel chromatography with solvent systems such as herein described for elution d) concentrating the fractions under reduced pressure. one new compound 4,9-dihydroxy- 6-(4-methoxyphenyl)-8H-[1,3]dioxolo[4,5-g]chromen-8-one from B. monosperma and two new compound 1,8-dihydroxy-3,6- dimethoxy-2,7-dimethylanthracene-9,10-dione & 5-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-7-(((2R,3R,4S,5R,6R)-3,4,5-tri hydroxy-6- methyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)oxy)-6-(((2S,3S,4R,5R)-3,4,5-trihydroxytetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)oxy)-4H-chromen-4-one are first time isolated with developed chromatography method from these species which were identified with the aid of spectroscopic methods like UV,IR, NMR and Mass.
