The present utility model is directed to the process of manufacture of a medical wound dressing. Honey and alginate are mixed and treated with a calcium compound to be able to form alginate gels. Sterility is ensured by exposure of the wound dressing to gamma irradiation. The wound dressing can be used for treatment of moderately to heavily exudating wounds including surgical wounds, burns, ulcers and pressure sores.
