ABSTRACT ANTI-FUNGAL AND ANTI-BACTERIAL PEPTIDES FROM N-TERMINAL MEMBRANE-BINDING REGION OF E. coli MreB The present invention relates to synthetic antimicrobial peptides of 9-10 amino acids length having amino acid sequence selected from the group comprising of SEQUENCE ID 1, SEQUENCE ID 2 and all analogs, homologs, derivatives, and conservative variations thereof, based on the 9-residue-long N-terminal amphipathic peptide sequence of Escherichi coli MreB membrane protein, having broad spectrum activity against gentamicin and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (gentamicin- resistant MRSA), Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria, and fungi comprising of Candida albicans wherein the minimal bactericidal/fungicidal concentration of the antimicrobial peptide with the sequence SEQUENCE ID 1 is 10 µM - 20 µM. and the minimal bactericidal/fungicidal concentration of the antimicrobial peptide with the sequence SEQUENCE ID 2 is 3 µM - 10 µM.
