The present invention relates to a protection device for a blind animal and a protection method using the same. The protection device for a blind animal comprises: a main body which can output sound and vibration, can perform communications, and is worn on the animal； a ring comprising a fixation member, joined to the main body, and a ring member which is connected to the fixation member and made of an elastic material and enables a head of the animal to be located in a center of a predetermined longitudinal line； and an ultrasonic wave sensor which emits ultrasonic waves at a predetermined angle with respect to a surface of the ground to identify whether an obstacle, interrupting movement of the animal, exists. The protection device is worn on an animal which has damaged visual organs and is blind, identifies obstacles located in moving direction, notifies the animal of the obstacles, can prevent injury and falling of the animal, senses a bio-signal of the animal, and transmits information of the bio-signal to a guardian.시각장애동물을 위한 가변형 보호장치 및 이를 이용한 보호방법이 개시된다. 본 시야 확보가 불가능한 동물을 보호하는 보호장치는, 소리 출력 및 진동 출력, 통신이 가능하고 상기 동물에게 체결되는 본체； 상기 본체와 연결되는 고정부재 및 상기 고정부재와 연결되고, 상기 동물의 머리가 기설정된 경선의 중심에 위치되도록 하는 탄성 재질의 고리부재를 포함하는 링； 및 상기 동물의 이동을 방해하는 장해물의 유무를 측정하기 위해 지면을 기준으로 기설정된 각도로 초음파가 방출되도록 하는 초음파 센서；를 포함한다. 이에 의해, 시각기관이 손상되어 시야확보가 불가능한 동물에게 착용되고, 동물의 이동방향에 위치한 장해물들을 파악하여 동물에게 공지함으로써 동물의 부상 및 낙상을 방지하할 수 있으며, 동물의 생체신호를 감지하여 생체신호 정보를 보호자에게 전송하는 시각장애동물을 위한 보호장치 및 이를 이용한 보호방법을 제공할 수 있게 된다.
