The present invention provides a bone screw assembly including a screw having a shank for fixation to a bone and a first threaded surface. The screw further includes a head, and a neck having a diameter less than that of the head. The assembly also includes a receiver for retaining the screw. In one configuration of the bone screw assembly, a longitudinal axis of the screw is fixed in a coaxial position relative to a longitudinal axis of the central bore of the receiver creating a monoaxial screw.
