The tool has a gripper (11) comprising a reservoir (12) for receiving a dental reinforcement preform before polymerization. An application and shaping unit (14) applies and shapes the reinforcement preform, where the reinforcement preform has tubular shape in initial state and adopts band or ribbon shape after crushing. The application and shaping unit comprises a tip (16) that is opaque to light radiation, where the tip is terminated by an application head (17) that is transparent to light radiation. An independent claim is also included for a dental reinforcement preform.L'invention concerne un instrument à main pour la pose d'un élément de contention dentaire qui comporte un organe de préhension (11) pourvu d'un réservoir (12) destiné à recevoir une préforme de renforcement dentaire et des moyens d'application et de formage (14) de la préforme. La préforme de renforcement a une première forme initiale et est apte à adopter, par écrasement, une seconde forme distincte de la première forme. Le réservoir (12) communique avec les moyens d'application et de formage (14) de manière à dispenser ladite préforme de façon continue. Les moyens d'application et de formage (14) comportent un embout opaque (16) aux rayonnements lumineux, terminé par une tête d'application (17) transparente aux rayonnements lumineux. L'invention concerne également l'utilisation d'une préforme dentaire formée par une cordelette tubulaire, en fibres tressées, imprégnée et remplie par une résine photopolymérisable pour un tel instrument à main.
