A catheter for use in neurosurgery is described. The catheter has a fine tubearranged forinsertion into the brain parenchyma of a patient with an external diameter ofnot more than1.0 mm, a hub and a stop surface operatively connecting the single fine tubeand the hub, thestop surface allowing a distal end of the fine tube to be located at a desiredtarget duringinsertion of the fine tube into the brain parenchyma. The catheter may be usedinstereotactically targeting treatment of abnormalities of brain function, andfor the infusion oftherapeutic agents directly into the brain parenchyma. This is advantageouswhen atherapeutic agent would have widespread unwanted effects which could beavoided byconfining the delivery to the malfunctioning or damaged brain tissue.
