The present invention relates to a material and method for promoting motion preservation in a bone. One preferred method comprises (a) accessing an interior of the bone, (a) mixing magnesia, potassium biphosphate, and a calcium phosphate with an aqueous solution forming an activated slurry, (c) applying an effective amount of the activated slurry to the interior of the bone, (d) allowing the activated slurry to set forming a bonded bone structure, and (e) permitting bone growth into the bonded bone structure to thereby promote motion preservation of the bone.
