Provided are: a novel polyglycerin dialkyl or alkenyl ether that is useful as a gemini type surfactant with high hydrophilicity and a cosmetic composition containing the polyglycerin dialkyl or alkenyl ether. This polyglycerin dialkyl or alkenyl ether is represented by formula (1).
