The joystick interlock system of the catheter treatment system includes a joystick configured to generate a first voltage output signal based on linear actuation of the joystick and a second voltage output signal based on rotational actuation of the joystick. A joystick cover is disposed over the joystick and includes an upper portion having electrode plating on an inner surface and a lower portion having an inner surface. A capacitive touch detection circuit is coupled to the electrode plating on the top of the joystick cover and attached to the inner surface of the bottom of the joystick cover. The capacitive touch detection circuit is configured to detect a change in capacitance proximal to the electrode plating and generate a touch output signal indicating whether a change in capacitance has been detected. A signal permission circuit is coupled to the joystick and the capacitive touch detection circuit and configured to generate a linear permission voltage output signal and a rotation permission voltage output signal based on whether a change in capacitance is detected.
