<；P>；PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous antibacterial and antifungal coating material exhibiting antibacterial and antifungal activities stable over a long period, and to provide an antibacterial and antifungal composition to be added to the coating material. <；P>；SOLUTION: The antibacterial and antifungal composition for the coating material comprises a metal pyrithione compound represented by formula (I) (wherein, R<；SP>；1<；/SP>；to R<；SP>；4<；/SP>；are each a hydrogen atom or the like； M is one kind of metals selected from the group consisting of Na, K, Mg, Ca, Ba, Al, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn and Pb； and n is the valence of the metal), and an amine-based surfactant.
