An injection device comprises a locking mechanism (171a, 171b) between asyringe carrier (128) and an end cap(111) of the injection device. The cap is formed in such a way to inhibitmovement of the syringe carrier and syringe towards an exitaperture of the injection device when the cap is located in its closedposition on the injection device. A needle shield (123) locatedon the needle of the syringe is removed by rotating the cap whilst the lockingmechanism remains engaged. On removal of the cap,the locking mechanism is no longer so engaged and the syringe and syringecarrier can move towards the exit aperture. This assistsin preventing damage to the syringe prior to actuation of the injectiondevice.
