The present invention relates to a novel use of anemarrhena extracts, or the like, and goldthread extracts, or the like. Specifically, provided is a composition for preventing, improving or treating colitis, comprising, as an active ingredient, one or more selected from an anemarrhena extract, an alcohol-soluble fraction having 3 to 8 carbons of the anemarrhena extract, mangiferin, pharmaceutically acceptable salts of the mangiferin, neomangiferin, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts of the neomangiferin, or one or more selected from a goldthread extract, or an alcohol-soluble fraction having 3 to 8 carbons of the goldthread extract. The complex extract, which is made of the anemarrhena extracts, or the like, and the goldthread extracts, or the like, has excellent activity to prevent or treat colitis in colitis-derived model animals, or the like, thereby being used as a food and medicinal substance included in a pharmaceutical composition or a functional food composition.본 발명은 지모 추출물 등과 황련 추출물 등의 신규 용도에 관한 것으로서, 구체적으로 지모 추출물, 지모 추출물의 탄소 수가 3 내지 8인 알코올 가용성 분획물, 만지페린(Mangiferin), 만지페린(Mangiferin)의 약학적으로 허용가능한 염, 네오만지페린(Neomangiferin) 또는 네오만지페린(Neomangiferin)의 약학적으로 허용가능한 염에서 선택된 1종 이상 및 황련 추출물 또는 황련 추출물의 탄소 수가 3 내지 8인 알코올 가용성 분획물에서 선택된 1종 이상을 유효성분으로 포함하는 대장염 예방, 개선 또는 치료용 조성물을 제공한다. 본 발명에 따른 지모 추출물 등과 황련 추출물 등으로 이루어진 복합 추출물은 대장염 유도 모델동물에 대해 우수한 대장염 예방 또는 치료 활성을 가지므로, 약학 조성물 또는 기능성 식품 조성물을 구성하는 식의약적 소재로 사용될 수 있다.
