A catheter assembly includes a catheter adapter, a septum housing (16), and a septum (18a,18b). The catheter adapter includes a distal end, a proximal end (22), an inner wall (24) extending between the distal end and the proximal end (22), and a lumen (26) formed by the inner wall (24). The septum housing (16) includes one or more protrusions (34) and may be secured to the inner wall (24) by one or more of the following: an interference fit between the one or more protrusions (34) and the inner wall (24), a snap fit between the one or more protrusions (34) and the inner wall (24), and bonding between the one or more protrusions (34) and the inner wall (24).
