Disclosed is a balloon catheter based on the electrohydraulic effect. The balloon catheter comprises an intracavity tube, a balloon, an electrically conductive liquid, electrode pairs and a pulsed power supply. The intracvity tube is configured to run through the interior of the balloon, and is coaxial with the balloon in a lengthwise direction. The balloon is configured to be sealed against an outer surface of the intracavity tube. The electrically conductive liquid is configured to fill the interior of the balloon. The electrode pairs are configured to be fixed onto the outer surface of the intracavity tube inside the balloon, and there are one or more electrode pairs. The pulsed power supply provides a pulsed voltage required for the discharging of the electrode pairs and is connected to the electrode pairs via wires. The electrode pairs are powered on and then break down the electrically conductive liquid in the discharge gaps between anodes and cathodes thereof to generate a shock wave. The present invention is small in size, and allows the calcification of a blood vessel to be eliminated in a minimally invasive and efficient manner by means of a controllable shock wave generated by the discharging of the electrodes based on the electrohydraulic effect.
