A transportable vacuum assisted decontamination unit, comprising: a housing containing a decontamination chamber and a decontaminant processing section； and a military master pallet on which the housing is positioned； the decontamination chamber comprising at least one gas inlet for admitting a gaseous decontaminant into the decontaminant chamber from the decontaminant processing section and at least one gas outlet for evacuating the decontamination chamber； the decontaminate processing section comprising a decontaminant generator and vacuum means； the decontaminant generator being adapted for generating a gaseous decontaminant and the vacuum means adapted for generating negative pressure within the decontamination chamber for drawing the gaseous decontaminant into the decontamination chamber and for evacuating residual decontamination gases from the decontamination chamber, wherein the decontamination unit is ruggedized.
