FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: syringe comprises a monolithic barrel, piston and an insert. Monolithic barrel defines a longitudinal axis, first and second axial ends, and a bore extending along the longitudinal axis. Bore terminates in a needle adapter at the first axial end and is divided into two bore portions, the first bore portion has a first axial length and extends from the needle adapter partially towards the second axial end, and the second bore portion has a second axial length and extends from the first bore portion to the second axial end. First bore portion is circular in cross section and the second bore portion has a cross sectional shape that at least partially extends beyond the radius of the first bore portion. Plunger is sealed against the inner wall of the monolithic barrel within the region of the first bore portion. Plunger rod extends along the longitudinal axis of the monolithic barrel towards the second axial end and terminates in opposition to the plunger in an enlarged cap that extends radially beyond the barrel and comprises the base of the cap in the region where the enlarged cap and plunger rod intersect. Base of the cap has such a size and shape in cross section so as to correspond to the cross section of the second bore portion, wherein the base of the cap is in the form of a straight circular cylinder. Plunger rod comprises a first row of at least one of the depressions and protuberances along at least part of its length and a sealing base adjacent to the enlarged cap.
