PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oily component which provides a high degree of safety, suppresses feeling of oiliness when applied to skin, has light feel and air permeability, is emollient, and originates from vegetables, and to provide a cosmetic, an external preparation, a coating material, and an ink composition containing the oily component.SOLUTION: There is disclosed an ester derivative comprising 2-octanol originating from vegetables: is as chemically stable and polar as an ester derivative comprising 2-ethylhexanol originating from petroleum provides a high degree of safety and has unique feel of suppressing feeling of oiliness when applied to skin, having light feel and air permeability, and being emollient.
