Disclosed is the use of a therapeutically effective amount of at least one iron chelating compound in manufacture of a medicament for treating or preventing mucormycosis, wherein said iron chelating compound is a non-siderophore or non-xenosiderophore relative to mucormycosis. Wherein said iron chelating compound comprises deferiprone or deferasirox. The medicament can also comprise at least one antifungal agent.
