An end effector assembly (100) of a tissue resecting device (10) and a tissue resecting device (10) including the end effector assembly (100) and a handpiece assembly (200). The end effector assembly (100) including a proximal hub housing (110), an inner drive core (140) at least partially disposed within the proximal hub housing (110), a cutting member (130) extending distally from the proximal hub housing (110) and engaged with the inner drive core (140) such that rotation of the inner drive core (140) rotates the cutting member, and a lock and release mechanism (150) operably coupled between the inner drive core (140) and the proximal hub housing (110). The lock and release mechanism (150) is transitionable between a locked condition rotationally fixing the inner drive core (140) and the proximal hub housing (110) relative to one another thereby rotationally locking the cutting member (130), and a release condition enabling relative rotation between the inner drive core (140) and the proximal hub housing (110) thereby enabling rotation of the cutting member (130).
