The arthritis prevention or treatment composition comprises stauntonia hexaphylla leaf as an active ingredient.본 발명은 멀꿀 잎 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 관절염 치료, 개선 또는 예방용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 상기 멀꿀 잎 추출물은 세포독성이 없을 뿐만 아니라, 염증과 관련된 사이토카인(cytokine)의 mRNA의 전사수준, NO 분비량 및 염증의 원인이 되는 COX-2 효소의 저해활성을 확인한 결과, 효과적으로 염증을 저해할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 관절염과 관련하여 파골세포의 분화를 효과적으로 억제할 수 있다는 것을 동물실험을 통하여 확인하여 완성한 것으로, 이를 유효성분으로 포함하는 상기 관절염 치료 또는 예방용 의약 조성물 또는 관절염 예방 또는 개선 효과가 있는 식품 조성물 등으로 응용될 수 있다.
