The present invention relates to means and methods for regulating the gut microbiota composition of a subject, preferably a human. In particular, the present invention is an agent capable of reducing the ratio of Laccinospirae bacteria in a subject's gastrointestinal microflora composition, which promotes weight loss or weight gain in a subject, preferably an obese or overweight subject. Agents that are useful for prevention are provided. Lactobacillus rhamnosus CGMCC 1.3724 is particularly preferred as an agent provided by and used in the present invention.
