The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating nonalcoholic fatty liver disease comprising mung bean coat extract as an active ingredient, and to a health supplement for improving liver function. The mung bean coat extract of the present invention: reduces ALT activity in blood serum reduces neutral fat content in liver tissue and increases secretion of adiponectin and reduces numerical value of TNF-&alpha, IL-6 and MCP-1, which are inflammatory cytokine, by inhibiting oxidative stress known for main mechanism of liver cell damage: therefore the composition comprising the same can be useful for preventing or treating the nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Especially, the mung bean coat extract is applicable to an edible plant: therefore the composition comprising the same as the active ingredient can be safe for long term use.
