A surgical instrument comprises a handle assembly (20) having an approximation firing handle (22) and a stationary grip (23). An elongated body portion (30) extends distally from the handle assembly. A tool assembly (40) is supported adjacent a distal portion of the elongated body portion (30). The tool assembly includes a cartridge assembly (44) and an anvil (46). The tool assembly is movable to a clamping position to clamp tissue, when actuated by movement of the approximation firing handle. A tactile feedback system (50) includes an expandable member (70) supported on the handle assembly and at least one sensor (48) supported on the tool assembly (40) to sense a preselected tissue parameter of the tissue clamped by the tool assembly. The expandable member is operatively associated with the at least one sensor. The expandable member is expandable in response to a change in the preselected tissue parameter.
