PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bone anchoring device capable of being more rapidly and more easily inserted into a bone with less force, and capable of being easily removed from the bone, too.SOLUTION: This threadless bone anchoring device (1) for anchoring in the bone includes: a hollow shaft (2, 3) having an outer surface and a barb carrier (5) having a plurality of barb elements (52). The shaft (2, 3) and the barb carrier (5) can be moved relatively to each other such that the barb elements (52) of the barb carrier (5) do not project beyond the outer surface (31) of the shaft (2, 3) in a first configuration and that the barb elements (52) of the barb carrier (5) project beyond the outer surface (31) of the shaft (2, 3) in a second configuration.
