Use of human placental perfusate cells in the manufacture of a medicament for suppressing the proliferation of blood cancer cells, wherein the placental perfusate cells are (a) total nucleated cells from placental perfusate, (b) placental perfusate cells that have been treated to remove at least one type of cell, or (c) placental perfusate cells that have been treated to enrich for at least one type of cell； and wherein said placental perfusate cells are contacted with an immunomodulatory compound in an amount and for a time sufficient for said perfusate cells to exhibit detectably more cytotoxicity towards said blood cancer cells than an equivalent number of perfusate cells not contacted with said immunomodulatory compound.
