Method of determining the value of one or more quality properties of milk yielded from a number of animals by means of a milking machine at a milking station, wherein the milk yielded from the animals is collected for further processing, comprising the steps of carrying out a quality measurement on the milk from an individual animal at the milking station by means of a first measuring device and calculating a calculated value of the property according to a calculation program loaded into the milking station computer, taking an individual sample of the milk from the animal in question and carrying out a measurement on the sample by means of a second measuring device in a laboratory. Obtaining on the basis of said measurement, a laboratory value of said property for the milk and comparing the laboratory value with the calculated value before deciding, on the basis of the comparison, whether or not to adjust the calculation program and subsequently carrying out said adjustment. Both the onsite and lab analysis of the milk is carried out on samples from individual cows rather than a mixed sample form the herd as a whole. The results obtained from individual cows can be averaged. A measuring device for carrying out the method is also claimed.
