The present invention pertains to the protection against malaria. More particularly, the invention is based on the characterisation of a novel liver and sporozoite-stage P. falciparum antigen, referred to as LSA-5. This antigen is highly antigenic and the prevalence of antibodies in subjects living in endemic areas is extremely high (ca. 90 %). The invention concerns antigenic peptides or polypeptides, mixotopes and conjugates comprising part of the sequence of LSA-5, as well as immunogenic compositions, vaccines and kits comprising these.
