A self-sealing male Luer connector (10) attaches to any standard female Luervalve to open a flow channel between the two. The self-sealing male Luerconnector (10) includes a rigid housing (12) having a distal end (16) with arigid male Luer connector and a proximal end (14) at which a proximal seal(82) is formed. The distal end (16) of the housing (12) includes a valve seat(70). Located within the housing (12) is a resilient biasing member (34) thatbiases an actuator (36) into contact with the valve seat (70) to prevent fluidflow through the male connector (10). Upon engagement with a female connector,the actuator (36) is moved in the proximal direction to open the distal valveand then the proximal seal (82). A partial vacuum is formed within the maleconnector (10) upon disengagement with the female connector that draws anyfluids on the external surface of the distal end (16) of the male Luerconnector into the male tip.
