Curable glass ionomer compositions comprising a first paste and a second paste, and methods of using the disclosed compositions are disclosed. The first paste includes water, polyacid, and a non-acid reactive filler. The second paste comprises water, an acid-reactive filler, and non-cohesive, water-miscible nano-sized silica particles with a surface coverage of the particles of at least 25% with silane. The composition is essentially free of resin.
