The front wall of the imaging system breast compression paddle is adjacent to and faces the patient's chest wall during imaging. The anterior wall has a reference surface adjacent to the chest wall. The lower wall connected to the curved lower interface extends away from the chest wall and is adjacent to the upper end of the compressed breast. The two outer edges extending away from the anterior reference surface partially define the slightly raised center portion of the bottom wall. The bottom reference plane, the front reference surface and the vertical reference plane substantially orthogonal to the bottom reference plane, and the access surfaces disposed proximate to at least one of the two outer edge portions are each defined by the bottom wall.
