The measurement accuracy of a capsule having a sensor device is improved. The present invention relates to a medical capsule including a sensor device including a light emitting element and a light receiving element. The sensor device is configured to detect blood, particularly gastrointestinal bleeding, based on the light absorption characteristics of the blood, and the capsule includes a casing that forms a recess or gap in its outer surface. The recess has a preselected width which means a fixed measurement interval between the light emitting element and the light receiving element disposed on both sides of the recess or gap when viewed in the width direction. The medical capsule is placed at least at the bottom or near the bottom of the recess or gap, preferably on both sides in the width direction of the recess to prevent the emitted light from bypassing the recess through the capsule casing material.
