A method implemented by a computer device for making a measurement with respect to an object, the method comprising steps of: determining a distance (D h) between the device and the object capturing at least one image of the object at said determined distance (D h) and at an angle substantially parallel to a line of the determined distance determining a pixel difference (Δp) for at least one dimension component between at least two image points on the image and calculating a distance (D actual) for the at least one dimension component based on the determined pixel difference (Δp), a representative distance per pixel (P) for the device and a ratio of the determined distance (D h) to a calibration distance (D cal), wherein the representative distance per pixel (P) is predetermined at the calibration distance (D cal).
