A product interaction monitor includes a sensor that measures a property associated with a product and/or product package or other type of container. A product interaction monitor can be attached to the container cap and can be used to monitor events related to the container, such as product use. The product interaction monitor can utilize multiple sensor outputs to improve the accuracy of event detection. The product interaction monitor can be used to estimate product inventory or product usage and to send information about products and/or product usage to a local display or remote computer.
