PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a breathable gas inlet control device that permits flow regulation at an inlet of a flow generator for a ventilator or continuous positive airway pressure device.SOLUTION: A breathable gas inlet control device 102 changes inlet aperture size on the basis of flow conditions. An inlet flow seal 114 opens or closes an inlet 112 connected to a blower 104 in accordance with changes in pressure within a seal activation chamber 116 near the seal. The seal may be formed by a flexible membrane. A controller selectively changes the pressure of the seal activation chamber by controlling a set of one or more flow control valves 118 thereby making it possible to selectively stop a forward flow, prevent a back flow or lock open the seal to permit either a back flow or forward flow.
