PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new antioxidant involving an ORAC(oxygen radical absorbance capacity) activity-bearing peptide having an amino acid sequence found in a lactoprotein.

SOLUTION: The new antioxidant involves, as the active ingredient, a peptide having an amino acid sequence composed of 3-6 amino acids found in the amino acid sequence in a lactoprotein wherein the peptide contains two or more amino acids selected from the group consisting of W, Y, M, C and H, and having on both N- and C-terminals amino acids selected from the group consisting of W, Y, M, C and H, or having consecutively two amino acids selected from the group consisting of W, Y, M, C and H. In the oxidant, the ORAC activity of the peptide is greater than ORAC activity value of BHA (wherein, excepting a peptide having the amino acid sequence of WYSLAM). The peptide is obtained by enzymolysis of a lactoprotein such as &alpha-casein, &beta-casein, &gamma-casein, &kappa-casein, &alpha-lactalbumin or &beta-lactoglobulin, or by peptide synthesis.
