A hydrophobic filter (1) for filtering air flow (A) or other gas flows in medical applications comprises a housing (13) surrounding a filter chamber (130) and an inlet opening disposed on the housing (13). An inlet port (10) forming part (100), an outlet port (11) located on the housing (13) to form an outlet opening (110), and a filter extending along the extension surface (12). A hydrophobic structure (12) separating the chamber (130) into an inlet chamber (133) and an outlet chamber (134) is provided. The inlet opening (100) opens into the inlet chamber (133) and the outlet opening (110) opens into the outlet chamber (134). In the present description, when viewed along the extension surface (E), the outlet opening (110) opens into the outlet chamber (134) at the first position and the inlet opening (100) defines the extension surface (E). Open to the inlet chamber (130) at a second position different from the first position when viewed along.
