A ratcheting adjustment device (10) for making fine manual adjustments to the relative position of two mechanical elements in a machine. It comprises a housing (14), a ratchet gear body (16) comprising a first ratchet gear (24) to drive the ratchet gear body counterclockwise and a second ratchet gear (26) to drive the ratchet gear body clockwise, and an adjustment bolt (20) attached to a first mechanical element (42). A pawl assembly (50) comprises a first pawl (52) that engages the first ratchet gear and a second pawl (54) that engages the second ratchet gear (26). Rotational movement of the housing causes rotation of the adjustment pin, and causes a pawl disengagement pin (60) to disengage the non- driving pawl. The device permits very fine adjustments without the use of tools.
