PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous body having high communicativeness and sufficient mechanical strength and capable of being suitably used as a carrier for cell culture such as micro-carrier culture and a method of manufacturing the same.
SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the porous body is carried out through a step for preparing foaming slurry by agitating and blending a dispersion medium containing hollow ceramic or glass particles having &ge1 &mum average particle diameter, a dispersant and a foaming agent to form foam, a step for obtaining a dried body by dropping the foamed slurry into liquid nitrogen, followed by freeze-drying in vacuum and a step for sintering the dried body to obtain a spherical porous body having opening pores interconnected over an entirety.
