The present disclosure encompasses pharmaceutically acceptable antimicrobial compositions of an amount of levulinic acid and sodium dodecyl sulfate effective in reducing the microbial population of an internal cranial cavity of a recipient human or animal subject. The disclosure also provides methods for reducing a microbial population of an internal cranial cavity of a recipient human or animal comprising contacting the oral cavity or sinuses of the subject with a composition comprising between about 0.5% to about 5% by weight per volume of levulinic acid and between about 0.05% to about 2% by weight per volume of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and for a period effective in reducing a microbial population of the oral cavity.La présente invention concerne des compositions antimicrobiennes pharmaceutiquement acceptables dune quantité dacide 4-oxopentanoïque et de dodécyl sulfate de sodium efficace pour réduire la population microbienne dune cavité interne du crâne dun sujet bénéficiaire humain ou animal. Linvention concerne également des procédés destinés à réduire une population microbienne dune cavité interne du crâne dun bénéficiaire humain ou animal comprenant la mise en contact de la cavité orale ou des sinus du sujet avec une composition comprenant entre environ 0,5 % et environ 5 % en poids par volume dacide 4-oxopentanoïque et entre environ 0,05 % et environ 2 % en poids par volume de dodécyl sulfate de sodium (SDS) pendant une période suffisante pour réduire une population microbienne de la cavité orale.
